Dungog Film Festival

The Dungog Film Festival is something wholly unique to this country – a festival that celebrates Australian films exclusively in a non-competitive environment. Our principle objective is to increase the appreciation of Australian screen culture and heritage.

We showcase new Australian screen content, honour leading Australian filmmakers, and create a context for contemporary Australian works by getting the classics out of the vaults and back into the cinemas.

By hosting the world’s biggest celebration of Australian films, Dungog has become a key event on the screen industry’s calendar and a must for lovers of Australian screen culture.

History of The Festival

Established in 2007, the Dungog Film Festival showcases Australian films — past, present and future — in a non-competitive environment that celebrates and promotes Australian screen culture. As it enters its fifth year, the festival has established itself as one of the country’s key events and has been included on the prestigious NSW Events Master Calendar.

Festival Director, Allanah Zitserman, founded the Dungog Film Festival with filmmaker Stavros Kazantzidis.  Their aim is to foster a greater appreciation of home-grown content amongst Australian audiences, strengthen bonds within the film and television communities and present a cultural experience in a rural setting.
Over the years, film luminaries, emerging talent, actors, film buffs, students, industry executives, journalists and switched on audiences have flocked to Dungog in increasing numbers. Attendees love the festival because it offers a truly world-class festival experience, and film industry professionals enjoy the laid back vibe and intimate atmosphere that promotes camaraderie.
The festival presents a smorgasbord of new Australian features, restored masterpieces, thought-provoking documentaries, cutting edge shorts, premiere television and education programs (master classes, workshops, works-in-progress). Audiences get to experience the rare opportunity of being up close and personal with talented filmmakers and actors.

The Dungog Film Festival is presented by Dungog Film Festival Limited, a not for profit organisation listed on the Australian Register of Cultural Organisations.
